Is Halloween around the corner? Is there a cosplay convention coming up? Do you just like dressing up in costumes of your favorite video game characters? Whatever the reason, we put together a list of everything you need for a portal cosplay costume! We have a list of each item (socks/boots, jumpsuit, gun, shirt, companion cube, and cake!) that you’ll need to dress up as Chell (the main Portal character).
Let’s start from the toes and work our way up! Make sure to reference the photo of Chell above as you put together your Portal cosplay.
The Portal Long Fall Boots
While there are resources on how to turn your pre-existing boots into the long fall boots that we see in the portal games, we’d recommend the quicker and fairly cheap method. These socks clearly are not boots, but they have the look and they are cheaper than a pair of actual boots. They’ve got the valve portal look and will start your portal cosplay off on the right foot! (see what I did there?!?!)

The Orange Aperture Jumpsuit
The character in the game is a woman named Chell, and she’s wearing an orange jumpsuit. One option is that you can purchase a more accurate, and more expensive suit on Amazon (Click Here) that has the Aperture logo and white bands on the arms. This version of the jumpsuit is definitely more accurate to what you’ll see in the Portal 1 and Portal 2 game.
Or you can just buy an orange jumpsuit. Honestly, if you’re planning on getting the cube and socks then this regular jumpsuit will be just fine. You can decide to wear it fully zipped up or you can tie the top portion around your waist as Chell does. This jumpsuit is significantly cheaper, and the best route for the person on budget who wants a Chell portal cosplay costume.

The Portal Gun
Sadly, it’s not easy to find or buy a replica of Valve’s Portal Gun. The more expensive route is buying a handmade replica of the portal gun at Etsy, but it isn’t cheap! If you actually create your own please send us an email of your creation!
I guess Portal guns are just as rare in the real world as they are in the game.
The Portal Aperture T-Shirt
You may already own one, but if not you’ll need to buy a plain white tank top. You can buy one for cheap on Amazon (click here). The other option is that you can purchase an Aperture T-Shirt with the logo on the front of it. It’s more realistic, but more expensive. (click here to see it on Amazon).
The All Important Companion Cube!
You can’t dress up in Portal cosplay without the companion cube! It’s practically a character of itself within the Portal video game series. The size is 6″ x 6″ x 6″ and it’s wonderfully soft, but also weighted to give it substance. Please keep it safe, and enjoy solving puzzles with it!
