#40 – Monkey Bomb Symbols

By | Video Game Podcast | No Comments

Welcome to the best video game podcast in the entire world. You’ve just arrived at your destination, and are about to listen to your new best friends. Gimmick, Lemonsmith, and Virindi Puppet have been playing video games for over 20 years and their commentary will blow your mind. Collectively, they have the most refined opinions on the gaming universe and you’ll be surprised by their wit, candor, and humor.

On this week’s Hey You Video Game podcast you’ll be able to hear the boys talk about the following topics!

ASHES OF CREATION. It’s an up and coming online RPG shooteresque game that’s bending the MMO genre. Tired of boring fights in World of Warcraft and looking for something that combines the hit registry of a first person shooter with the story of the Tolkien Universe? We are! The hype is real on this game, but Gimmick refuses to succumb to the excitement. The guys talk about why this game looks promising. If you’re curious about the gameplay youtube video they’re referencing you can find it HERE.

Cyberpunk 2077. The company behind the Witcher franchise has released 45 minutes of their single player FPS. It’s got a Blade Runner vibe, and CD PROJEKT RED is  known for games with DEPTH. All of the guys are excited for this one, but Lemonsmith will probably be the only one who plays it. The other boogers rarely make the time for a single player game. What about you? Are you looking forward to this game? Are you happy that it’s first person or were you hoping for this title to be third person? Share in the comments below!

BATTLE ROYALE  – Not an episode goes by where Gimmick and Lemonsmith don’t talk about upcoming battle royale titles. The Call of Duty BR called Blackout has released some information that the guys dig into. Surprisingly we are more excited for Call of Duty BR over Battlefield V’s BR titled ‘Firestorm.’ The reasoning is fairly simple. Battlefield is introducing TANKS to their battle royale. No one wants to play BR and face off against a tank. How in the world is Battlefield going to balance that? We understand they’d like to put their own spin on the battle royale genre, but tanks aren’t the answer. The HYVG stance is that the battle royale genre is still ripe for the picking, and a game developer only needs a working, competitive BR that has no gimmicks (har har). Seriously though – no base building, no weaponized vehicles, no fancy red zones, and no desync. Make a battle royale like this and the people would flock to it.

New EMINEM ALBUM – Gimmick shares his love for the new album and the other two guys pretend to be interested. Go rap?

SCUM – All three of the guys bought SCUM to see if their opinions were right from previous episodes. They found the game to have some serious issues, but are hopeful that a few changes would make it fun. Lemonsmith created a YouTube video on his own experience playing the SCUM video game. Check it out HERE.

OTHER STUFF. They hit on a few other topics such as Black Desert Online Remaster, the idea for kamikaze monkey bombs, and ear issues.

We hope you enjoy this episode of the Hey You Video Game podcast, and that you make this your PREMIER gaming podcast. If you want the dudes to talk about something on the podcast HIT US UP. Gamer Thumb Can Ruin You

By | Hey You Video Game Blog | No Comments

thumb hurts from gamingI have been gaming since I was a child, but I am no longer a kid anymore. I am 31 years old, and have a few gray hairs coming in. My body is starting to get a few aches and mystery pains, and I don’t recuperate from sickness as quick as I used to. This is all part of getting older and I have accepted that. Most of this doesn’t concern me, but I began to wonder how long term gaming would affect my body. I don’t know about you, but I want to be gaming for the entirety of my life and don’t want to be set back by any gaming related injuries. Out of curiosity I decided to research typical gaming injuries. While doing my research I came across a common injury that many gamers suffer from called gamer thumb.

Gamer thumb is a condition that affects the thumb and wrists. It can result in pain and sometimes a popping noise near the outside of the thumb or near the wrist. The symptoms can also include sore thumb joints and pain while flexing the wrist or while trying to grab something. Many gamers can feel pain and soreness while gaming and once developed even after setting the controller down. Read More

The Mythical 2 Hour Stream. Is it possible to have a highly produced two hour stream that brings in millions of viewers? Lemonsmith thinks so. Virindi Puppet and Gimmick are unsure, but the boys talk about this fantastical possibility.

Everything You Need to Know about Toxic Gaming Culture

By | Hey You Video Game Blog | No Comments

toxic gaming communitiesIf you have played any multiplayer video games online there is a good chance that you’ve had an encounter with a toxic player. We’ve all had those situations where we’ve fired up our game to enjoy a fun session only to be harassed and bothered by a toxic player. Toxic gaming culture seems to be on the rise with more gaming allowing for online multiplayer interactions. It would be surprising if an online gamer had never had an experience with a toxic player.

By toxic I am referring to any individual you meet in a video game who abuses and harasses other players. Perhaps they’re also engaging in activities in game that ruin the gameplay for all involved. This can include exploits, cheats, intentional team killing, and purposely losing matches.

Have you ever been purposely killed by a teammate for no reason? You just encountered a toxic player! Someone shout bigoted, sexist, or racist slurs at you? You spotted a toxic player! Did you just listen to a teammate explain all the reasons why you’re the worst gamer on the planet? You encountered a toxic player? Did you join a team with another player who intentionally lost the match? You have come across a toxic player! Read More

Does Playing Video Games Hurt Your Eyes?

By | Hey You Video Game Blog | No Comments

video games hurt eyesThe average American spends 10 hours and 39 minutes a day looking at a screen. This includes mobile phones, television, computer screens, and tablets. As an avid gamer I am not surprised. Think about all the time you spend on a daily basis checking your phone, playing your Nintendo Switch, or gaming on the PC. As gamers we spend a good chunk of our time staring at a screen, and so we were curious if this was causing damage to our precious eyes. Does playing video games hurt your eyes? Here’s what we found out.

Playing Video Games Can Hurt Your Eyes

Extended amounts of time playing video games (or looking at any screen) can lead to a condition called digital eye strain. I have heard hardcore gamers call it “video game eye strain” and it’s an issue that about 50 percent of people who work (or game) in front of a screen experience. The symptoms of the eye strain can include drys eye, eye fatigue, irritated eyes, itchiness, red eyes, and headaches.

I have experienced digital eye strain myself. When I was younger I could game for hours without any of these symptoms, but now as an older man find that prolonged gaming sessions will make my eyes bloodshot and fatigued. My eyes could be bloodshot for up to two days. Knowing that my gaming was having a negative impact of my eyes led me to ask the question below… Read More

Do Gamers Have Faster Reflexes?

By | Hey You Video Game Blog | No Comments

gamers reaction timeMany video games require fast reflexes to win or at least help a player perform well at the game. E-sport professionals that play in the first person shooter arena have incredibly fast reaction and reflexes in game that help them in their gameplay. Gamers are putting hours into games that require fast reflexes and reaction time, but does this give them an edge over non-gamers? The question is – do gamers have faster reflexes than non-gamers?

The quick answer is…maybe? Here is the evidence for why the answer to this question is inconclusive.

The Single Study that Points to Gamers Being Fast at Clicking

A study at the Central Washington University gathered 87 individuals ranging from 18-40 years of age. Their aim was to examine the “differences in types of reaction time to a visual oddball stimulus between gamers and non gamers as well as males and females.” What is a visual oddball stimulus? Basically they’d place someone at a computer screen with a mouse. The screen would change colors or perhaps an object would appear on the screen, and the moment the change took place the participant would need to click down on the mouse. The study was measuring the reaction time between the object appearing on the screen and the click of the mouse. Read More

Do Video Games Make You Smarter?

By | Hey You Video Game Blog | No Comments

video games make you smarterDo Video Games Make You Smarter?

As a hardcore gamer who has played thousands of hours of video games I want to know if I am smarter, because I play video games. I want to know the real answer behind the question, “Do Video Games Make You Smarter?” Gamers are often stereotyped as lazy, unmotivated, and portrayed as people who would rather sit on the couch with a controller than a book. While it’s true that there are individual gamers who do perpetuate this stereotype this article will point to numerous studies that prove that video games can make an individual smarter.

Playing Video Games Results in Faster Decisions that are Accurate

A study at the University of Rochester done by cognitive scientists have discovered that gamers will make the right decisions faster. According to the study, “develop a heightened sensitivity to what is going on around them, and this benefit doesn’t just make them better at playing video games, but improves a wide variety of general skills that can help with everyday activities like multitasking, driving, reading small print, keeping track of friends in a crowd, and navigating around town.

An interesting outcome of this study was that they found that gamers who play action oriented video games were up to 25 percent faster at reaching a decision that was correct compared to those playing non-action oriented games. One of the authors of the study remarks that, “Action game players make more correct decisions per unit time. If you are a surgeon or you are in the middle of a battlefield, that can make all the difference.” Read More
