Tabletopia is a “sandbox” system that allows you to play board games online by yourself or with others. There’s no AI to enforce the rules and so it’s similar to playing a board game on a table in your home. It’s up to you to enforce the rules, setup the board, and play the game.
Tabletopia has over 900 games on its platform including Chess, Texas Hold em’, Scythe, Viticulture, and more. With more people coming back to board games the platform is thriving and is a great way to enjoy board games with those who can’t come over to your house. With this said, the real question is…
Does Tabletopia have Monopoly on it? Unfortunately, Monopoly is not part of the collection of games on Tabletopia. According to one of their developers, they “don’t have the rights to publish Monopoly.“
Monopoly is one of the most popular board games in the world and is currently being published by Hasbro. Interestingly enough, it is often criticized as a poorly designed board game that promotes a negative experience for players. On the popular board game site, BoardGameGeek.com it is rated as being one the top 20 worst board games of all time!
But all that to say, you’re probably like me and have fond or even negative memories of winning or losing at Monopoly. Hopefully Hasbro allows Tabletopia to put Monopoly on their platform in the future, but for now they’re not allowing it.
It’s a huge bummer. Kinda like landing on Boardwalk when you don’t own it.
